Benekiva

Overview

Benekiva is an enterprise insurance operations platform built specifically to modernize the legacy claims and asset distribution systems of life insurance carriers. The platform features an end-to-end cloud framework that replaces fragmented paper trails with automated beneficiary check-ins, rule-based triage, and real-time operational transparency. By providing claims examiners with unified digital workspaces and self-service portals, it cuts manual intake friction and speeds up processing times. Ultimately, Benekiva enables insurance companies to improve data security and bridge the communication gap between back-office operations and modern beneficiaries.

What it does

• Automates the processing of life and annuity insurance claims from intake through final resolution or payout calculations.
• Provides a secure digital beneficiary self-service portal for electronic document upload, automated validation, and status tracking.
• Centralizes complex back-office data by tracking scattered historic policy archives into a single intuitive user screen.
• Features a rules-driven, configurable engine that runs validation checks to identify and surface possible fraudulent claims instantly.
• Facilitates seamless cloud-native communication channels allowing claims examiners to securely collaborate with internal legal audits.
• Tracks real-time operational performance metrics through custom operational dashboards to help managers optimize internal SLA goals.

Who it's for

• Life Insurance Carriers looking to migrate out of rigid legacy mainframe claim environments
• Annuity Providers seeking to automate distribution management workflows and asset payouts
• Claims Operations Directors focused on lowering operational cycle times and processing friction
• Beneficiaries and Policyholders demanding transparent, self-service digital status tracking loops

Why it works

• Reduces claims processing turnaround cycle windows by automating manual data cross-referencing routines.
• Increases customer satisfaction ratings by enabling beneficiaries to track step-by-step progress online without waiting on support calls.
• Adapts flexibly into deep back-office setups through modern cloud integrations that connect directly to old backend mainframes.
• Protects core operational systems by using rigorous cloud-native encryption protocols designed for enterprise financial compliance.
• Empowers operational managers to adjust and configure changing policy requirements without writing custom backend code loops.

Founder story

Benekiva was founded in 2017 by Brent Williams and Bobbie Shrivastav in Des Moines, Iowa. Drawing from deep domain experience across financial services, insurance infrastructure, and business technology optimization, the founders recognized that life insurance claims processing was historically slow, heavily paper-reliant, and frustrating for grieving beneficiaries. Seeking to replace ancient, fragmented mainframe pipelines with a user-first automated environment, they built an end-to-end framework tailored specifically to modernization demands. Operating from the prominent tech hub of Des Moines, the business has scaled steadily into an established platform serving major national enterprise insurance accounts.

Comparison overview

• Benekiva differentiates itself from massive legacy providers like Guidewire or Duck Creek by offering a highly agile, modern configuration design that can be layered on top of existing mainframes without needing a complete system replacement.
• Unlike general P&C claim suites such as Snapsheet that specialize in auto or property inspection flows, Benekiva is custom-engineered for the specific validation requirements of life and annuity operations.
• While traditional platforms prioritize internal examiner utilities exclusively, Benekiva balances its design by creating an easy-to-use digital beneficiary self-service interface.
• It provides an ideal fit for mid-to-large carriers seeking rapid digital optimization pipelines, though teams requiring all-in-one general property damage modeling might look to broader suites.
