Bolt.new is an AI-powered development environment that runs entirely in the browser. It enables users to scaffold, run, edit, and deploy full-stack web applications using natural language prompts. Built by StackBlitz, it leverages WebContainers technology to execute Node.js environments directly in a browser tab, allowing for instant prototyping and development without local setup.
Bolt.new was launched in October 2024 by Eric Simons and Albert Pai of StackBlitz. The project emerged from their years of building browser-based infrastructure. After prototyping the concept earlier in 2024, they utilized Anthropic's Claude 3.5 Sonnet to achieve the required performance, resulting in rapid viral adoption and significant revenue growth within weeks of launch.
