Drawboard

Overview

Drawboard provides a powerful suite of PDF annotation and collaborative markup tools designed for document-heavy industries like architecture, engineering, and construction. Its flagship products, Drawboard PDF and Drawboard Projects, enable users to annotate documents with pen-and-paper-like tactility, sync revisions in real-time across devices, and manage complex design review cycles. The platform aims to eliminate paper-based workflows and improve project coordination through centralized digital workspaces.

What it does

• Provides intuitive, pressure-sensitive ink tools for annotating PDFs with the feel and precision of writing on paper.
• Enables real-time collaborative markup and document review, allowing teams to sync annotations and comments across multiple devices instantly.
• Manages project-wide drawing reviews with automated version control, overlay modes for change comparison, and structured task tracking.
• Allows for the attachment of trackable issues and tasks directly to specific document areas to ensure accountability and follow-up.
• Facilitates secure integration with cloud storage providers and industry-specific platforms like Procore, Revit, and Aconex for streamlined document management.

Who it's for

• Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) teams
• Design and Engineering professionals
• Legal and Government agencies
• Educators and Students

Why it works

• Best-in-class ink engine provides a natural, tactile experience that mimics traditional pen-and-paper workflows, reducing friction in digital annotation.
• Real-time cloud syncing ensures that all team members are consistently working on the most up-to-date document revision.
• Purpose-built collaboration tools for AEC teams, such as overlay and revision validation, significantly shorten complex design review and approval cycles.
• Cross-platform accessibility allows field and office teams to stay connected, ensuring site-based decisions are instantly reflected in office workspaces.

Founder story

Drawboard was founded in 2011 in Melbourne, Australia, by Matt Barnes and Alistair Michener. The company was created to modernize paper-based workflows in industries like architecture and engineering. By focusing on document-heavy sectors, the founders built a platform that combines the simplicity of digital annotation with the enterprise needs of collaborative version and issue management.
