MacroPoint

Overview

MacroPoint is a global freight visibility and carrier capacity network designed to help logistics-intensive businesses gain real-time insight into their supply chain operations. By integrating with electronic logging devices (ELDs), GPS-enabled smartphones, and transportation management systems (TMS), it automates load tracking and replaces manual check-calls with predictive ETAs and event-based alerts. The platform enables users to manage shipments by exception, minimizing delays and improving delivery performance. Acquired by Descartes Systems Group, it remains a foundational tool for logistics providers to optimize freight capacity and enhance transparency across the transportation lifecycle.

What it does

• Freight brokers
• Third-party logistics providers (3PLs)
• Shippers
• Transportation managers
• Operations coordinators

Who it's for

• Freight brokers and 3PLs needing carrier visibility
• Shippers looking to track inbound/outbound freight
• Logistics service providers managing domestic freight
• Transportation management system (TMS) users

Why it works

• Automates tracking data collection from ELD/GPS sources to eliminate manual check-calls and administrative overhead
• Provides real-time, multimodal visibility across the largest network of connected trucking assets and drivers
• Delivers predictive analytics and automated alerts to enable 'manage by exception' workflows for at-risk shipments
• Facilitates carrier capacity matching by identifying available trucks within or outside of the partner network
• Integrates directly into existing TMS and ERP systems to provide a unified 'control tower' view of logistics operations

Founder story

MacroPoint was founded in 2011 in Cleveland, Ohio, by a team focused on solving the 'black hole' of freight visibility. By automating load tracking and connecting disparate transportation data, the founders created a solution that allowed shippers and brokers to gain real-time location insights without relying on manual driver communication. In 2017, the company was acquired by Descartes Systems Group for $107 million, cementing its role as a key component of a global logistics platform.
