Founder story
Ryan Shank was frustrated with the state of call tracking software. The existing tools were built on ancient telecom infrastructure, had terrible user interfaces, and were completely ignoring the needs of modern digital marketing agencies. In 2017, he launched PhoneWagon in New York City with a massive focus on beautiful UI and automated text messaging. After rapidly scaling the user base and capturing the agency market, the company was successfully acquired by industry heavyweight CallRail in 2021.

Comparison overview
CallRail: The industry giant that eventually acquired PhoneWagon, offering deep, multi-touch attribution and conversation intelligence.
Invoca: A massive, enterprise-grade call tracking platform focused heavily on AI-driven conversation analytics for huge brands.
CallTrackingMetrics: A robust, highly technical platform that combines call tracking with full contact center capabilities.
DialogTech: A legacy analytics platform tailored for mid-market and enterprise marketing teams.
While Invoca and DialogTech target massive enterprises, PhoneWagon carved out its niche by being the fastest, most beautifully designed tool for small agencies. It won by stripping away the enterprise bloat and focusing purely on getting local businesses and their marketers up and running with trackable numbers in seconds.
