Rookout

Overview

Rookout is an enterprise-grade live debugging and developer observability platform built to troubleshoot applications instantly without restarts or redeployments. By utilizing non-breaking dynamic logpoints, developers can securely fetch real-time state data, full stack traces, and local variables directly from staging or live production environments. It integrates seamlessly across major cloud microservices architectures like Kubernetes and serverless frameworks. The platform mitigates downtime, resolves complex edge-case code bugs, and streamlines collaboration between engineering and operations teams before or after scaling.

What it does

• Provides live debugging and data extraction for production environments.
• Fetches runtime data without stopping the application or deploying code.
• Integrates seamlessly with existing IDEs and logging platforms.
• Drastically reduces the mean time to resolve software defects.

Who it's for

• Enterprise Software Engineering Units
• DevOps and SRE Infrastructure Teams
• Cloud-Native Application Developers
• Fast-Growing Microservices Teams

Why it works

• Fetches variables and full stack traces on demand without restarting active production systems
• Injects ad-hoc dynamic logpoints inside containerized architectures instantly with zero downtime
• Supports distributed cross-technology language runtimes like Java, Python, Ruby, and Node.js
• Compresses standard time-to-resolution metrics up to five times over manual debugging arrays
• Adheres to stringent corporate enterprise security paradigms backed by SOC 2 and GDPR compliance

Founder story

Rookout was co-founded in 2017 by tech leaders Liran Haimovitch and Or Weis in Tel Aviv, Israel. Drawing on deep backgrounds in cybersecurity and software engineering, they realized developers were drowning in the friction of reproducing production-level cloud bugs locally, forcing heavy service restarts and slow compilation cycles. They engineered a secure, live-data injection middle layer that decouples data retrieval from code deployment pipelines. The company successfully scaled its platform across Fortune 500 networks before its high-profile acquisition by Dynatrace in 2023.

Comparison overview

• Unlike legacy APM or monitoring solutions that limit debugging parameters to static logs pre-written inside code base builds, Rookout allows retroactive data collection instantly.
• It distinguishes itself from local system breakpoints by introducing zero overhead latency and never pausing active customer transactional execution flows.
• Additionally, its unified cloud interface embeds directly into current observability tools, eliminating separate monitoring pipeline rewrites.
