Founder story
Supabase was founded in January 2020 by Paul Copplestone and Ant Wilson. Frustrated by the rigidity of proprietary backend providers, they set out to build an open-source, Postgres-based platform that offers the ease of use of BaaS without sacrificing control. Headquartered in Singapore, the company has since grown into a massive developer ecosystem.
What it does
• Provides a fully managed, ACID-compliant PostgreSQL database with full SQL access and no forks
• Offers secure authentication with OAuth, magic links, SSO, and multi-factor support
• Enables real-time data synchronization across clients using Postgres replication
• Manages S3-compatible object storage for files, images, and videos
