Founder story

Thinkific was founded in 2012 by Greg Smith, Matt Smith, Charles Barrett Adams, and Matt Payne in Vancouver, Canada. The idea sparked when Greg Smith, then operating a test-preparation course for the LSAT, discovered that existing online hosting frameworks lacked robust branding and flexible monetization controls. The team developed a self-serve platform built to provide independent creators full ownership over their student base, culminating in an initial public offering (IPO) on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 2021.
